ISLE OF WIGHT—The Isle of Wight Academy soccer team defeated Southampton Academy 3-0 Monday.

“This team works very well together,” said IWA Coach Caren Moore.

Josh Weihe gave the Chargers a 1-0 lead at halftime that they never relinquished.

“The Raiders couldn’t mount a comeback,” said SA Coach Jamie Weist.

“We struggled to maintain possession allowing two additional goals in the second half.”

The Chargers improve to 6-1-1 on the season, while the Raiders fall to 11-1-1.

Weihe had an additional goal in the second half and Justin Cobb added one. Additional leaders for the Chargers were Justin Cobb, Jackson Betz and Ryan Brady, all providing assists.

“Our goal was always to win the conference and tournament,” Moore said. “We have a great team with good chemistry. They have a lot of heart.”

IWA will next travel to Fuqua School at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 25. SA will next host Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24.
