FRANKLIN—Southampton High School senior Billy Britton picked up his third win of the season after shooting a one over par during a Southside District golf match at Cypress Cove Country Club in Franklin on Tuesday.

Britton scored a 37 on the nine-hole course and tied with Jacob Berryman from Park View. Britton’s finish combined with senior Jordan Francis and sophomore Brandon Munford’s scores of 38 each led the Indians to their fourth win of the season. Southampton has one loss.

The Indians’ team score was 161. Parkview came in second with 165. Greensville and Prince Edward followed, respectively; their team scores were not available.

Coach Buddy Whitehurst commended Britton, Francis and Munford.

“He (Billy) had a good round,” Whitehurst said. “He struck the ball well. Billy’s just a solid, consistent player.”

Whitehurst noted that Francis and Munford also had solid rounds.

Southampton will travel to Greensville for a 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, district match.
