ISLE OF WIGHT—Isle of Wight Academy won its final game of the season to earn second seed in the Virginia Commonwealth Conference tournament, which opens today.

The Chargers earned a bye in the first round, and will host either Blessed Sacrament or Brunswick Academy at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 9.

“It was fight to the end,” IWA Coach Caren Moore said about Friday’s season finale and the 5-3 win over Fuqua.

Freshman Josh Weihe led with two goals for IWA. Junior Nathan Silvertson, eighth-grader Justin Cobb and sophomore Corey Holleman picked up one each. Holleman scored on a header.

Eighth-grader Gavin Hockett had an assist and freshman goalie Alec Edmonds made 12 saves.
