COURTLAND—Southampton Academy’s boys’ basketball team picked up its second win of the year, beating Northeast Academy of Lasker, N.C., 83-52 Wednesday night in the first round of the Battle of the Border Christmas Tournament.
Coach David Gibbs’ team made 11 three-pointers against Northeast’s 2-3 zone defense.
“We shot the ball extremely well from the outside,” Gibbs said.
Gibbs said the Raiders played well during the first five minutes of the game before slacking off and allowing Northeast to cut the lead to one point. The Raiders jumped out to a 40-22 lead at halftime.
Carson Camp led SA with 29 points, while Tonee Hill added 26. Zach Best added 11 and Matt Nixon 10.
The Raiders play tonight in the second round of the Battle of the Border Christmas Tournament against Ridgecroft at 7:30 p.m. in Courtland.
