COURTLAND – The Southampton Academy Lady Raiders improved their record to 4-1 overall with a 46-25 win over Northeast Academy out of Lasker, N.C. in the Battle of the Border Christmas Tournament.

“We played OK,” said Coach Chris Pope. “We were a little rusty because we hadn’t played in almost two weeks.”

Pope said the game was tight until the third quarter when the Lady Raider defense took control in the third quarter and caused a lot of turnovers.

“We were able to up our intensity on the defensive side,” Pope said.

On the offensive side, Lady Raider Beth Waller had 16 points, while Rachel Holland added 12.

The Lady Raiders play again tonight in the second round of the Battle of the Border against Ridgecroft, out of Ahoskie, N.C. The game starts at 6 p.m.
