WAKEFIELD—Tidewater Academy junior Cary Beahm needed 12 points to earn her 1,000th career point on Monday.

She scored 19 during the Lady Warriors’ 51-38 win over Southampton Academy.

Play was stopped in the third quarter to honor Beahm. A varsity player since eighth grade, Beahm was given the game ball as she became the fourth girl to pull off the feat since the school’s merger with Surry Academy in 1977. She is also the first girl to reach the plateau since 2003.

“It’s a very special feat, especially so early in her junior year,” said TA Athletic Director Walter Westbrook.

The game was the Lady Warriors’ home opener, and they took advantage of a sluggish first quarter by Southampton Academy. The Lady Raiders dropped in four points as Tidewater pumped in 14 points during the Virginia Commonwealth Conference game.

In the second quarter, Lady Raider Rachel Holland connected on two back-to-back baskets to close the score to 25-22 at the half.

In the third quarter, the Lady Warriors ran off 13 points to the Lady Raiders’ six.

During the final quarter, the Lady Raiders tried to make a comeback, but the defense of the home team prevailed. Tidewater outscored the visitors 13-10.

TA’s Taylor Pruitt scored 17 points and teammate Falon Williams added 5.

Beahm had 10 rebounds, while Williams cleaned the glass eight times.

Holland scored 23 points for Southampton Academy and Beth Waller scored 7.

The Lady Raiders fall to 2-1 overall and in the VCC. Southampton Academy will play Blessed Sacrament Huguenot at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, in Courtland.

The Lady Warriors improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in VCC play. Tidewater Academy’s next game will be at Christchurch School at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8.
