Draper, Fox top runners in SHS race

COURTLAND—Southampton High School’s Bryan Draper took fourth overall with a personal best of 19:38 for the Indians’ third-place finish during a home cross country meet Wednesday.

Lady Indians Jessica Fox, Kirstyn Andrew and Sarah Giorgi finished in less than 26 minutes, leading Southampton girls to a second-place finish.

“It was the best meet so far this year with three teams so close in points,” Coach Scott Edwards said about the boys’ race. “Almost all of the runners (including girls) had season and personal best times.”

Greensville won with 43 points. Prince Edward followed with 44, Southampton 47 and Park View 101.

Prince Edward won the girls’ meet with 28 points. Southampton followed with 52, Park View 60 and Greensville 83.

Also running a personal best for the boys was Treshaun Chappell, who finished 6th overall with a time of 20:08. Jeffrey Vincent finished 10th with a run of 20:57; Kevin Watford was 13th and Reece Britt was 14th. Daniel Lowdermilk finished in 18th with a run of 21:49. Forrest South ran a 22:05 and finished 20th.

In the girls’ race, Fox was fifth overall with a time of 25:13, Andrew sixth with 25:38, and Giorgi seventh with 25:59. Holley Moore placed ninth with a 26:43 run. Kesley Thomas took 12th with a run of 27:37, and Ashley Giorgi finished in 15th with a 28:18.

Southampton on Monday, Oct. 10, will host Northampton and Greensville and travel to Prince Edward on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
