COURTLAND—Heroin valued at $5,200 was allegedly found in a woman’s purse after a deputy with the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office stopped her for a traffic violation on Aug. 10.

Charged with manufacture-sale-possession of a controlled substance were Mary Jordan, 49, and Norman Williams, 71, both of Charlotte, N.C., and William Hill, 64, of Hampton.

Deputy D. Edwards stopped Jordan for an traffic violation on Highway 58. Hill did not have identification, but once identified, it was learned he was wanted in Newport News for distribution of heroin, said Sgt. Wanda Covington with the sheriff’s office..

Jordan and Williams were making “assertive movements” in the front seat of the vehicle, Covington said. Their actions prompted a search by a drug-sniffing dog, which reacted to drugs in the car.

Officials found 52.8 grams of heroin in Jordan’s purse, Covington said.
