SUFFOLK—A Franklin woman was killed after the driver of the car she was riding in crashed after allegedly fleeing from police.

Keiska Thornhill, 36, died at the scene, Suffolk police said.

Cornell A. Richardson, 41, of Drewryville was stopped for a traffic violation in the 1500 block of Holland Road shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday, police said. Richardson stopped, but when the officer got out of his vehicle, Richardson allegedly fled westbound.

Police followed Richardson and found debris in the 6400 block of Holland Road. They found the vehicle, which had left the road, hit a guardrail and then a tree.

Richardson, Thornhill and an unidentified female passenger were trapped. Suffolk Fire and Rescue freed them.

Richardson was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he is in stable condition. The unidentified woman also was taken to Sentara. Without her name, her condition could not be checked.

The accident remains under investigation.

Suffolk police learned Richardson was wanted in Southampton County on a felony warrant.

Sgt. Wanda Covington with the Southampton County Sheriff’s office confirmed Richardson is wanted on a felony assault charge from Jan. 20 in Southampton Meadows Mobile Home Park.
