Mr. and Mrs. Michael Drake of Newsoms have announced the engagement of their daughter, Wendy, to Adam Burgess, son of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Burgess of Conway, N.C.

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Drake Jr. of Newsoms and Mr. and Mrs. Miles J. White Jr. of Franklin.

She is a graduate of Southampton High School and North Carolina State University with a degree in agronomy and concentrations in soil and crop sciences, along with a minor in agricultural business management. She completed her master’s of science at NCSU in crop science and is employed by Hertford County Extension as an agriculture agent.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Alton Louis Smith of Boykins and the late Ruby Smith and the late Mr. and Mrs. Randolph Burgess of Conway.

He is a graduate of Northampton County High School East and North Carolina State University with a degree in crop science. He works on the family farm in Conway.

A September wedding is planned.
