Sedley 10U wins championship

SEDLEY—Sedley’s 10 & Under girls’ softball team beat Capron 3-2 in a playoff game to win the regular season championship.
Sedley lost two games — one to Capron and one to Courtland. Capron lost two games during the season; both were to Sedley. Since Sedley defeated Capron two out of the three times, the two teams faced off for first place.
Sedley pitcher Megan Tharrington had 11 strikeouts during the playoff game. Capron pitcher Kellie Ferguson had seven.
On offense for Sedley, Tharrington reached base on an error and scored on a passed ball for the winning run. Reagon Benson had a single during the game. Kennedi Carr had an RBI single and scored for Sedley.
Other team members are Hannah Dodson, Megan Purvis, Aichlyn Schultz, Rachel McNeil, Madeline Burgess, Samantha Stephenson, Hilary Newlon, Taylor Cross, Megan Swaab, Rebecca Iseminger, Jamine Davis and Taylor Darden.
Coaches were Tony Tharrington, Kelly Carr, Sean Iseminger, Jeff Dodson and Amanda Johnson.
Sedley will face No. 6 seeded Wakefield at 6 p.m. Friday, June 10, in Newsoms for the second round of tournament play. A victory will send Sedley to the championship series on Sunday, June 19.
Other 10U tournament action included a Capron victory over Ivor and a Newsoms win over Courtland. Capron and Newsoms will face each other at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 10 in Newsoms. The winner will advance to the championship.
