Sedley 16U to take on Newsoms

SEDLEY—The league champion Sedley 16U team at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 11, will take on Newsoms during the semifinals of the postseason tournament.

Both teams are undefeated in the double-elimination tournament.

During the regular season, Sedley defeated Newsoms 18-6 to win the title. The game was a continuation of a rainout.

Sedley pitcher Morgan Burks struck out five and hit a single and double. Zoe Dunlow also hit a double and single, while Ashley Britt had three RBIs and a single.

Sedley catcher Emily Nelson had four RBIs, a double and a single. Megan Duck also had a double, while Jenna Johnson had two singles. Mikayla Womble and Chelsea Burks had singles. Sam White walked four times. Audra Nahrebecki had an RBI.

For Newsoms, Heather Bradshaw had a single. Brittany Johnson had two RBIs.

Sedley 16U Coach Auldy Burks said this is the “best competition,” he has seen in years.

In 13U softball action, Capron is seeded number one, with Sedley seeded number two. Sedley defeated Ivor in round one of the tournament on Sunday and Wakefield defeated Newsoms.

Sedley travels to Wakefield for a 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 12, game. The winner will advance to the championship round.

Capron will face sixth-seeded Courtland, with the winner advancing to the championship game.

The championships will be held June 19 in Sedley, starting at 2 p.m. with the 10U team.
