Windsor duo qualifies for state tourney

RAPPAHANNOCK—Windsor High School’s doubles team of Bryce Lawrence and Zach Stenger-Hayden won the Region A Boys’ Doubles title to advance to the Group A State Tennis tournament at Radford University next week.

In the doubles semi-finals match, the Windsor duo started slowly losing the first set 2-6 to Rappahannock’s Logan Dunaway and Brandon Wiseman. Lawrence and Stenger-Hayden came back in the second set to win a thrilling tie-breaker, 7-6 (7-5), and captured the third set, 6-1, to advance to the finals.

In the finals, the Dukes faced Northampton’s Chris Read and Raheem Spady. After winning the first set 6-2, Lawrence and Stenger-Hayden held off a determined charge by Read and Spady to win the second set 7-5 and capture the Region A doubles crown.
