FRANKLIN—The Southampton Academy tennis team dropped to 3-4 on the year with a 5-4 loss to Blessed Sacrament Huguenot Thursday at Cypress Cove Country Club in Franklin.

The Lady Raiders won their first two matches with victories by Barclay Gatten and Jessica Porter.

Southampton went on to lose its last four singles matches to Blessed Sacrament before mounting a comeback in doubles matches, taking two of three.

Gatten and Porter won their match, as did Meagan Dail and Meagan Drewry.

Coach Joann Gatten said the team played with a lot of intensity, knowing the match would be close.

“It would only have taken a few points going our way to make the difference,” Gatten said. “Although the girls were disappointed, they seemed motivated to continue improving their game before meeting Blessed Sacrament Huguenot again in the conference tournament in May.”

SA will host Fuqua School at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 12.
