FRANKLIN—Saturday’s Community Day at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center included a food bank, health fair and step show.

The Love Yourself Health Fair was sponsored by the Franklin Lambda Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha and the Franklin Department of Parks & Recreation. Vendors and medical personnel provided free screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and diabetes. Health officials noted that many were advised to visit their family doctor.

Registration staff members said they were pleased that about 100 persons visited with vendors, who provided information and handouts on healthy eating, home health services and community resources.

Members and volunteers of the Mount Olive Holiness Church conducted their bi-monthly food bank distribution. Staff reported that about 150 bags were given out.

Topping off the day was an educational program and step show by the men of the Franklin Lamba Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Led by one of the founding members, Clyde Johnson, the program involved members speaking about great men of the fraternity and their contributions.

Organizers said they were pleased with the day and plan to make it an annual event.
