FRANKLIN—Franklin School Board on Thursday night voted unanimously to keep Superintendent Dr. Michelle Belle for another three years.
“Congratulations,” School Board Chairman Bill Scarboro told Belle, whose current two-year contract expires on June 30.
The school board did not say during the public portion of the meeting how much she will be paid. The school district administration office this morning referred that question to Scarboro, who could not be reached.
When Belle was hired in March 2009, she was paid $98,000 annually. The salary was not made public after Belle was hired until The Tidewater News filed a Freedom of Information request. Under the Freedom of Information Act, governing bodies are required to disclose records requested in writing by any person, including employee salaries.
Under the current two-year contract, Belle also received a $3,000 annuity annually and a $500 monthly car allowance. If S.P. Morton Elementary, J.P. King Middle and Franklin High earn Adequate Yearly Progress accreditation from the federal government and Standards of Learning accreditation from the state Department of Education, Belle would receive a $5,000 bonus.
The new contract will expire on June 13, 2014.
Before coming to Franklin, Belle was an administrator in Cumberland County.
