COURTLAND—Southampton Academy girls defeated First Baptist 44-31 Tuesday night.

“It was a win,” said Lady Raiders Coach Chris Pope, “Sloppy at times, but it was a win and we need that.”

The Lady Raiders improved to 3-2 on the season.

“I thought the girls played aggressive,” said Pope. “Our defense played well, but we still have a long way to go on offense, but we will get there.”

Leading the way for SA was Rachel Holland, who scored 14 points and went 100 percent from the free-throw line. Barclay Gatten added 11 points.

The Lady Raiders went into the locker room at half-time with a 23-17 lead over the Lady Crusaders, and carried the momentum into the second half, outscoring their opponents 21-14.

“We will take off for Christmas and come back after the holiday and try to get ready for the Christmas Tournament,” Pope said.

The Lady Raiders play Monday, Dec. 27, and Tuesday, Dec. 28, at home in the Southampton Academy Christmas Classic. The girls’ team will play host to Alliance Christian, Brunswick Academy and West End Christian.
