WHS cheerleading wins competition

FRANKLIN—The Windsor High School cheerleading squad won the 2010 Tri-Rivers District cheerleading competition at Franklin High School Monday night.

The Lady Dukes, along with runner-up Appomattox Regional Governor’s School, will advance to the regional competition on Wednesday, Nov. 3, at King William High School.

Windsor Head Coach Dawn Carroll was named Coach of the Year, and the Lady Dukes’ Desiree Elliott was chosen Cheerleader of the Year. Elliott also represented the Lady Dukes on the All-District first team as well as All-Academic Team.

Windsor honorees were Tabitha Butler (second team All-District), Chelsea Cahalan (first team All-District), Lea DeMatteo (first team All-District), Desiree Elliott (All-Academic and first team All-District), Sarah Johnson (second team All-District)

Jordan Jones (first team All-District), McKenzie Patrick (All-Academic and second team All-District), Amanda Pezzuto (All-Academic and first team All-District), and Holly Watson (All-Academic and second team All-District)

Franklin honorees were Tabbitha Bruck (All-Academic), Shaquira Holeman (All-Academic and second team All-District), Chastity Hunt (All-Academic and second team All-District), Sherese Lankford (second team All-District), Shanikqua McNear (All-Academic and second team All-District), LaShonda Parrish (first team All-District), Alexis Rineheart (All-Academic and first team All-District), Cornesha Wellons (second team All-District) and Sharnice Williams (All-Academic).

The Lady Dukes are also coached by Janet Brock. The Lady Broncos are coached by Ashanti Banks.
