Powhatan too much for Indians

COURTLAND—Southampton High School lost 46-0 to Southside District powerhouse Powhatan on Friday night.

Powhatan improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the district. Southampton dropped to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the district.

Powhatan finished with 406 yards offense while Southampton had 130 yards.

Powhatan started its scoring on a 1-yard touchdown run by Raymond Brown with 6:43 left in the 1st quarter. The kick by Johnathan Malcolm was blocked.

Powhatan’s next touchdown came at the 6:25 mark in the first quarter on a 24-yard pass from Kurt Taylor to Joshua Ingram. The kick failed.

Powhatan’s next touchdown came on a 20-yard run by Brown with 10:20 left in the second quarter.

Powhatan then made it 25-0 on a 23-yard pass from Taylor to Ingram with 5:40 left in the half.

Powhatan’s next touchdown came on a 5-yard run by Dion Berry with 37 seconds left in the second quarter.

Berry then added to that lead for Powhatan by scoring on a 45-yard fumble recovery with 11:25 left in the third quarter. .

The final touchdown came when Powhatan’s Alex Higuchi scored on a 4-yard run with 11:30 left in the fourth quarter. The kick made it 46-0.

Berry led Powhatan’s rushing attack with 92 yards and 1 touchdown on 14 carries.

Jaron White led all Southampton rushers, finishing with 56 yards and 2 fumbles on 11 carries.

Billy Nixon led Southampton passing, going 5 of 18 for 43 yards and 1 interception.

Southampton will look to get back on track when they travel to Park View High School next Friday night to play the Dragons. The game begins at 7:30 p.m. Powhatan will look to continue their dominance over their opponents when they host the Bluestone High School Barons next Friday Night. The game begins at 7:30 p.m.
