LAWRENCEVILLE—Southampton High School maintained a relatively close game with Southside District opponent Brunswick on Friday night, trailing 20-10 at the half.

But when the Bulldogs broke away for a touchdown in the second half, grabbing a 27-10 lead, the Indians couldn’t bounce back. The Bulldogs hung on for a 40-10 win.

“We tried, but couldn’t catch them,” said Indians Coach Wes Griffith. “We did not tackle.”

Southampton is 3-3 for the season and 2-1 in the league. The Bulldogs improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the league.

Southampton’s Karon Evans scored a touchdown on a 5-yard pass from quarterback Billy Nixon.

The Indians also scored a safety when the Bulldogs made a bad snap and their quarterback was sacked in the end zone.

Southampton plays Powhatan at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at home.
