Trio of Southampton High School spring teams win district tourneys

The Southampton High School varsity baseball, softball and boys soccer teams have been dominant in the Tri-Rivers District this spring, and they lived up to that description in their respective district tournament title games.

The Indians soccer squad defeated visiting Appomattox Regional Governor’s School 7-3 in the district tourney championship game on Wednesday, May 15, earning the title for the second year in a row.

On Thursday, May 16, the Lady Indians softball team routed visiting Greensville County High School 16-4 to win the district tourney crown.

During the same Thursday afternoon, the Indians baseball team pulled away from visiting Sussex Central High School to win 15-5 and repeat as the Tri-Rivers District Tournament champion.

All three Southampton teams went undefeated in the district this year, winning their respective Tri-Rivers regular season championships.

For baseball, the Indians (14-5) earned the No. 4 seed in the Region 2A Tournament and will host Randolph-Henry High School on Wednesday, May 22, at 5 p.m.

For softball, the Lady Indians (13-3) will also begin play in the Region 2A Tournament on Wednesday, May 22, at 5 p.m. They will visit Poquoson High School.

For boys soccer, the Indians (14-3) have earned the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the Region 2A Tournament. They will play in the quarterfinals at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, at home against No. 10 Arcadia High School.
