ISLE OF WIGHT—No. 7 — the jersey number for Fuqua quarterback Charles Williams — proved to be a lucky number and one Isle of Wight Academy could not stop.

Williams rushed for nearly 300 yards and three touchdowns as the Falcons defeated Chargers 38–14.

“We knew he would run the ball, but we thought that with a wet field, we would be able to stop him,” said Charger Coach Dale Chapman.

With less than one minute left in the game, the Chargers did not throw in the towel. On the Falcon kickoff, Charger running back Zeb Warnick took a short kick and almost broke it for a touchdown.

The Chargers managed to stop him on the 3-yard line. Time ran out on the IAW quarterback Ben Epps tried a keeper up the middle.

The Chargers’ first score came in the second quarter on a 9-yard run by Charles Keyt. The extra point kick by Charles Clamen was good, and IWA trailed the Falcons 18-7.

The Falcons next score came in the third quarter followed by a 2-point conversion, which pushed the score to 26-7.

The Chargers fought back with an impressive drive that started on their 23-yard line and used running and passing combinations. Keyt broke some good runs to advance the ball into Falcon territory.

Upon reaching the 19-yard line, Epps connected in the air with Matt Bratton for a touchdown. Clamen added the extra point.

The Falcons answered back quickly as Williams broke another big run and thencarried the ball 25 yards for another touchdown. The 2-point conversion failed.

In the fourth quarter, the Chargers advanced from their 49-yard line to the Falcon 19-yard line. Keyt advanced the ball to the goal line, but a holding penalty cancelled the advancement and moved the ball back.

Keyt led the rushing with 136 yards.
