Mason H. Simmons
Walters – Mason Holland Simmons, 93, widow of Robert Braxton Simmons, and a former resident of the Village at Woods Edge, died May 25, 2010 at the East Pavilion. She was born in Isle of Wight County, a daughter of the late Claude and Alice Cox Holland and was predeceased by a sister, Irene H. Keeter, and two brothers, Wilson S. Holland and Guy C. Holland. Mrs. Simmons was a member and Chaplain of the Order of the Eastern Star, Franklin Chapter, a member of the Southampton Memorial Hospital Auxillary, and a former “Pink Lady”. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Judith Simmons Drewry (Don) of Portsmouth; two grandchildren, Mills Robinson, Jr. (Kristen) of Virginia Beach and Alice R. Lyon (Eric) of Edwards, CO., three great-grandchildren, Mills “Tripp” Robinson, III, David Wade Robinson, and Elizabeth Mason Lyon; and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life and Eastern Star Rites will be conducted at 3 pm Saturday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Jay Gunn officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 pm Friday at the funeral home and suggest memorials be made to American Cancer Society, c/o Ms. Kathy Worrell, 717 Fairview Drive, Franklin, Va. 23851.
