Maurry V. Baker Sr.
SUFFOLK—Maurry Vernon Baker Sr., 74, died Aug. 16, 2009, at Consulate Health Care in Windsor.
He was a native of Nansemond County and the son of the late Fletcher L. and Mary Mayfield Baker.
He was also predeceased by three sisters, Mattie Copeland, Annie Perkins, and Louise Whitfield; three brothers, Willard Baker, Percey Baker and James Baker.
Mr. Baker retired from Planters Peanut Co. after 40 years of service. He was a member of Rising St. James PHC where he was a deacon, singer and former trustee.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Baker; two sons, Maurry Vernon Baker Jr. and Troy Baker Sr. (Sherelle), both of Suffolk; three grandchildren; one sister, Bertha White of Suffolk; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Rising St. James PHC, Suffolk officiated by Bishop Dwight Whitfield.
Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
