Hal Overton
FRANKLIN—Henry Hal Overton, 87, died Aug. 9, 2009, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Ahoskie, N.C., a son of the late Claud E. and Lucy Farmer Overton and was predeceased by two brothers, James and Sherman Overton, and two sisters, Lucille Tyndall and Evelyn Wynns.
Mr. Overton was retired from Union Camp Corp. as a traffic coordinator.
He was a member of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church where he was a member of the choir and former Sunday School teacher and superintendent.
His family and friends were his hobby and the joy of his life.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Barbara Byrd Overton; two daughters, Donna Lynn Robinson and husband Fred of Midlothian and Barbara Jean Bloedorn and husband Bob of Salt Lake City, Utah; two sons, Robert Allen Overton Sr. and wife Marty of Wake Forest, N.C. and Henry Hal “Hank” Overton Jr. and partner Wiley Gregory of Luray; six grandchildren, David Robinson, Emily R. Klein, A.J. Overton, Sarah B. Bennett, Daniel Bloedorn and Timothy Overton; two great-grandchildren, Gavin Bennett and Jackson Klein, with three more on the way; and many loving nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Franklin Christian Church with the Rev. James H. Hyatt Jr. officiating.
Interment will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
