BELHAVEN, N.C.—Eva Mae Peach Turner, 90, died Jan. 3, 2009, at Pungo District Hospital.
Mrs. Turner had made her home with her son, Jimmy and wife, Belvie Turner, for the last 2 1/2 years in N.C.
She was born in Great Falls, S.C., on Jan. 19, 1918, to Henrietta and Samuel Peach.
She married Compton W. Turner on Jan. 23, 1936.
She was employed as a switchboard operator at the old Riverside Hospital on 50th Street in Newport News for 14 years.
She then went to work as a bookkeeper for Martin & Richardson Seafood Co. for approximately 25 years, until her retirement.
Eva was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Compton W. Turner; and daughter, Sandra Growhawski; seven brothers, James M., William F., Clyburn, Sam, Tom, Dan and Ezekell; and three sisters, Ethel Gardner, Nan Kate Collins and Pearl Handy.
Survivors include her three baby boys, as she had been calling them lately, James C. (Belvie) of Windsor and Belhaven, N.C., Ronald W. of Newport News and Phillip W. and wife Mary of Annandale; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Peninsula Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Peninsula Funeral Home Chapel.
