HAMPTON—Sharon Diane Jones-Hayes died Nov. 12, 2008, at the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, surrounded by a host of family, friends and co-workers.
Mrs. Jones-Hayes was born June 15, 1957, to the late Charles “Kirk” Jones and Mabel Reid Jones.
She was a 1975 graduate of Smithfield High School; after which, she attended Morgan State University in Baltimore, Md., St. Paul’s College in Lawrenceville and Kee’s Business College.
She was employed with the City of Newport News Department of Public Utilities (Waterworks) for 30 years. As a customer service supervisor, she touched many lives through her hard work, dedication, and love for her employees and customers.
Many were blessed by her creative nature and affinity for the elderly.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Eric Hayes; stepdaughter, TaShai Cheeseman; mother, Mabel Jones; three sisters, Lohrer Mise (David) and Cleder Jones of Hampton and Polly Brown (Benji) of Prince George; two brothers, Charles Jones of Hampton and James Jones of Franklin; in-laws, Napoleon and Bertha Hayes; sister-in-law, Wanda Hayes; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A celebration of her life was held Tuesday at New Life Church, Power Plant Parkway, Hampton.
Interment was in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
Poole’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
