How To Submit Your Entry

Attach your photo to an email and send it to photocontest@tidewaternews.com. You must include your full name, a daytime phone number and a description of your photo including names and location in every email that you send. Attachments should not exceed 25mb. You may submit multiple photos to a single email and you may submit multiple emails. Photos will not be accepted any other way. Please retain the original camera quality version of your photos in case you are selected as a finalist. Photos from iPads, tablets or cell phones will not be accepted.

The contest deadline is Monday, Sept. 29 at 5 p.m.

Photos will be judged by a roundtable of The Tidewater News staff.

We are looking for candid photos that depict the full spectrum of
the people who live and work in Franklin, Southampton and Isle of Wight.

We judge photos for theme, composition and clarity.

Finalist photos will be balanced for color and lighting before printing.


You may only submit original photographs. You may not submit photographs taken by others. Edited photos will not be accepted. Black and white photos will not be accepted. You must be able to identify persons photographed including names, locations and ages of children if selected as a finalist. Photos are going in a high quality, horizontal format calendar. If you are unable to provide details or a print-quality version of your submission, another finalist will be selected. All winning photos become property of The Tidewater News, subject to be used in future publications and subject to be modified for print. Finalists will be contacted via the email address or phone number given unless an alternate form of contact is provided.
