COURTLAND – Norma Herring Bland departed this life peacefully in the early morning, Monday, July 18, 2022. Norma was born in Butters, North Carolina on May 19, 1930 to the late Frostie Mae and John W. Herring Sr. She was predeceased by three sisters, Dorothy Hickman, Flossie Powers and Lannie Nunez; and two brothers, John W. Herring Jr. and Edgar Herring; and is survived by her loving brother, F. Eugene Herring and his wife, JoAnn who were a great comfort to Norma and her family.

Norma was also predeceased by her devoted husband of 70 years, Allen Tillson Bland and a son, Richard W. Bland.

She is survived by son, Robert A. “Bobby” Bland of Charlottesville, Virginia and daughter, Betty Bland Hawkins (Howard) of Franklin. She is also survived by three grandchildren of whom she was greatly proud, Aaron Bland Hawkins (Brittany) of Moseley, Virginia, Anna Elizabeth Hawkins of Richmond and Beau Alexander Hawkins, also of Richmond; two great-grandchildren, Charlotte Rose Hawkins and Tillson Bland Hawkins who were both the apples of her eyes. She also leaves behind dear family friend, Thomas E. Gilreath of Charlottesville, Virginia and her best friend, Max the cat.

Norma was a compassionate Christian and an inspiration to all that knew her. She found great joy in caring for her home and family and was the most loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved the beaches of Emerald Isle, North Carolina and cherished her time there.

A private graveside service will be conducted at Holly Lawn Cemetery in Suffolk. Post condolences on parrfuneralhome.com.
