COURTLAND — Evelyn Cobb Payne, 85, passed away Aug. 3, 2020. in her home with her family by her side.

A native of Southampton County, she was the daughter of the late George Fenton Cobb and Ethel Harcum Cobb. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Julian Russell Carr and a son, Floyd Michael Carr.

Evelyn was a retired assistant registrar for the Franklin Health Department.

She was raised in Sycamore Baptist Church and was a member of Kingdom Life Ministries.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Charles A.L. Payne; her son. George Thomas “Tom” Carr of Courtland; a stepdaughter, Sheryl P. Spencer (Michael) of Christiansburg; a stepson, John Payne (Cathy) of Tennessee; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held in Southampton Memorial Park with the Rev. Matt Kidd and Pastor Denise Wise officiating.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5., in Wright Funeral Home.
