NEWSOMS — Nellie Rebecca Williams Worrell, 70, was welcomed into heaven with her son at her side on Dec. 27, 2019.

Rebecca W. Worrell

Born on June 1, 1949, to the late Edna Williams and Carroll Williams Sr. in Sussex County, Virginia.

Rebecca graduated from Prince George High School in 1968. She went on to obtain a nursing degree and multiple education degrees. Becky served in the lives of children as a lifelong educator, holding a variety of leadership and specialist roles in Isle of Wright County Schools until retirement in 2015.

Late in life she moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, to enjoy her favorite role of all: Grandma. She spent her days attending swim meets and soccer games. In her spare time she enjoyed antiques and thrift store shopping.

Becky courageously fought pancreatic cancer for 17 months. She will forever be remembered by her smile, generosity and beauty — both inside and out.

Becky was predeceased by her loving husband of 48 years, Sheldon Carter “Butch” Worrell Jr.; her grandson, Sheldon Carter Worrell IV; her brother, Edward Williams; and her sister, Anne Grizzard.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Sheldon Carter “Donnie” Worrell III (Laura); two grandchildren, Margaret Grace Worrell and Carter Lee Worrell of Ponte Vedra; her siblings, Jean Gill of Stony Creek, Virginia; Mary Jane Smith of Dinwiddie, Virginia; Elaine Lane (Warren) of Jarrett, Virginia; and Carroll Williams Jr. (Buzzy) of Chester, Virginia; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019, in Hollywood Cemetery, with the Rev. Penny Rasnake officiating. The reception will follow in the Newsoms UMC fellowship hall, and the family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Newsoms UMC, c/o Jenny Bunn, P.O. Box 297, Newsoms, VA 23874.
