WAKEFIELD

The National Weather Service’s Wakefield station has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Southampton County, the city of Franklin and Isle of Wight County, as well as surrounding localities, which will remain in effect through 11 o’clock tonight.

According to the NWS, there is a 30-percent chance of thunderstorms this afternoon, which increases to a 70-percent chance this evening. There will be a slight risk for severe thunderstorms today, mainly during the late afternoon and evening hours, with scattered storms possible. The main threats will be damaging winds, large hail and frequent lightning.
