BOYKINS — Marie Jarratt Carter, 87, passed away on Dec. 27, 2017.

Mrs. Carter was a native of Drewryville, a former resident of Richmond and a resident of Boykins for the last 12 years. She was the daughter of the late Waverly Leonard Jarratt and Virgie Harris Jarratt, and was also predeceased by her husband, William “Bill” Wood Carter.

She was a 1947 graduate of Drewryville High School and a graduate of Smithdeal-Massey Business School.

She was a member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church in Richmond, and owned Forest Hill Beauty Salon in Richmond for over 50 years.

She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Dr. Carolyn C. Modlin and husband, Jimmy, of Boykins; two grandchildren, Dee Modlin Clary and husband, Jason, of Rawlings; and Jim Modlin and wife, Cassie, of Sedley; three great-grandchildren, Parker Collins Clary, Dawson Cole Clary and Carter James Modlin; many nieces and nephews and two special “god sons” Robert and Richard Poland.

The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 29, in Wright Funeral Home, Boykins, with the Rev. Kyle Bass and the Rev. Michael Baugham officiating. Burial will follow at the Drewryville Cemetery.

The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, and suggests that memorial donations be made to the Boykins Volunteer Rescue Squad.
