FRANKLIN, Va. —The City of Franklin has canceled its Wednesday, July 2 Independence Day Celebration activities due to forecasts of inclement weather, officials announced Wednesday.

Despite the cancellation of daytime events, the city confirmed that its annual fireworks display is still scheduled to take place at 9 p.m. Fireworks will be launched from the boat landing near Barrett’s Landing in downtown Franklin.

Parking will be available in the adjacent grass lot by the boat landing. However, officials cautioned that recent rainfall may impact accessibility.

“Due to the rain leading up to the fireworks, there is a chance the grass lot will be closed,” city officials said in a statement. “City employees will be monitoring the lot throughout the day to make that decision.”

Residents planning to attend are encouraged to check the city’s official communications for updates throughout the day.
