FRANKLIN – William Floyd (Bill) Griffin Jr. passed away peacefully in his home June 13, 2025. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Ann Howell Griffin; his children, William Floyd (Billy) Griffin III, John Thomas Griffin; sisters, Jean Newsome and Carolyn Epps; brother, Ronnie Wes, and grandchildren, Savannah Griffin, Will Griffin, Bryce Griffin, Susanna Griffin and Dylan Griffin.
A graduate of Virginia Tech, Bill served in the Corps of Cadets, and lat
er received his Masters Degree from North Carolina State. Bill enjoyed his time working as a Henrico County Extension Agent and his relationships with farmers, nurserymen and residents of Virginia. He was involved in the early efforts of Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden.
He was an avid Virginia Tech fan, loved James Bond movies, proved himself a great dancer and was known to carry well the baritone line of “Delta Dawn.”
A stroke victim, Bill personified resilience. He persisted in a way that inspired those around him to keep going. He served as an inspiration to the idea of taking life one day at a time. For this, we are grateful.
We will miss him very much.
The family especially extends its love and thanks to Kimberly Jean Newsome Edwards, Sheltering Arms Hospital, Ken Zelenak, Jane Wangondu and At Home Care.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18 at Wright Funeral Home in Franklin. Burial will be private.
