Franklin Lions Club honors Parker, Gilbert

The Franklin City Lions Club recently held a celebration for two of its members. Clyde Parker and Dick Gilbert each received the Good Samaritan Award during a May 1 awards ceremony.
A club news release noted that this award is given to individuals or organizations who display exemplary humanitarian and community service.
Parker has been a member of the Lions Club for 50 years, and Gilbert has been a member for 45.
“Both men are shining stars and examples of how we should give back to our community and be helpful at all times,” club officials stated.
Others in attendance at the awards ceremony included Jacob Vick, Past President Mark Kitchen, Region Director Mark Van Eck, Michelle Toano, Secretary Sheryl Rawls and Vice President Leland Beale.
The primary purpose of Lions Clubs is to serve their communities and the world, facilitating humanitarian efforts, community development and promoting peace and understanding.
“They focus on improving health and well-being, strengthening communities and supporting those in need,” club officials stated. “Their motto is ‘We Serve,’ and they engage in a wide range of activities, including sight conservation, environmental programs and youth outreach, among others.”
Events that the Franklin City Lions Club participates in include the following:
- Vision and hair screenings;
- Purchasing glasses for those in need;
- Passing out readers at the Foodbank; and
- Juvenile camp for the blind, deaf and diabetic.
The club release concluded by noting that for those interested in joining the Franklin City Lions Club, it meets the first Thursday of the month at the Presbyterian church on Lee Street at 6 p.m. All are welcome.
