FRANKLIN – John Rudolph Walter, 79, passed away June 11, 2025 in his home with his wife by his side. His 11 year battle with cancer has ended.

John was a graduate of Granby High School and attended Old Dominion University. He served in the Navy Reserves and was a retired Instrument Supervisor for Dominion Energy after 30 years of service.

ife of 43 years, Helen Linda Walter; a daughter, Lisa Williams (David) of Chesapeake; two sons, Edward Walter and Wesley Walter of Norfolk; two sisters, Linda Morrison (Bob) of Virginia Beach and Sally Fontenot (Bill) of Sedley; two brothers, Tom Walter (Jeri) of Austin, Texas and Bob Walter (Susan) of Moyock, North Carolina; and four grandchildren, Kristine LeStrange (Dustin), John Williams Jr., Jessica Walter and Emalee Williams.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Cynthia Sile for the care provided by her and her staff and also to Medi Hospice who were with him during his final days.

The family will receive visitors from 1- 3 p.m. on Monday, June 23 in Wright Funeral Home. A private celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Sycamore Baptist Church, Franklin, Virginia.

For many, life will go on as always, for a few, nothing will ever be the same.
