David D. Crear

FRANKLIN – David D. Crear, of Artis Street, Franklin, Virginia passed away on June 5, 2025, in Bon Secours Southern Virginia Medical Center, Emporia, Virginia. The native of Corpus Christi, Texas was born on October 31, 1945.

During David’s early years, he attended and graduated from the public school system of Corpus Christi. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served 33 years. During his career, he was promoted to Technical SGT (TSGT). After receiving an honorable discharge on Aug. 10, 2000, he began working at Norfolk Naval Base where he was trained as a Journeyman Rigger. His stint with the Naval Base lasted until his retirement on Oct. 31, 2005.

David was a member of First Baptist Church and was active with the Men’s Ministry. He met and married Mary Blow and they were united for 30 years. David was a quiet man, a good husband, fun-loving and riding out was a favorite pastime.

David was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Jane Crear Terrell and half-brother, Soloman who passed away in 2011. He will forever live in the hearts of his loving wife, Mary Crear; one son, Wayne Crear (Lucy); two daughters, Shellane Demarest (Dean) and Tonya Crear; one stepdaughter, Gail Artis; five grandchildren, extended relatives and friends.

A public viewing for Mr. Crear will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 3 – 7 p.m. His homegoing celebration will be Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 318 Hall Street, Franklin, Virginia with the pastor, Rev. Joseph Charlton delivering the eulogy. Immediately following the service, the committal and benediction will be held in Southampton Memorial Park.
