COURTLAND – Julian Randolph “Jack” Norvell, 82, passed away May 29, 2025 in his home with his family by his side. Born in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, he was a son of the late William Lewis Norvell Sr. and Bennie Allsbrook Norvell-Cuzner. He was also predeceased by a brother, William Lewis “Bill” Norvell Jr., and a granddaughter, Logan Sierra Larimer.
Jack was a graduate of Seaboard High School and Chowan College. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army and a retired Sergeant for the Virginia Department of Corrections. After his retirement, he worked part time for the Southampton County Sheriff’s Department.
He loved Franklin and served on the Beautification Committee, Downtown Franklin Association and was one of the original members of the Franklin Shag Club. He worked diligently with the Relay for Life events held in Franklin.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 22 years, Brenda Deskins Norvell; two daughters, Nadine Norvell Larimer and Hilliary Deskins Story (Wesley); a son, Charles Kevin Deskins (Angela); a brother, Dr. Thomas Allsbrook Norvell (Barbara); a sister-in-law, Jean Norvell; four grandchildren, Samantha Hirte, Aubrie Story, Cadence Deskins and Livia Deskins; and a great-granddaughter, Eleanor Logan Hirte. Jack always said proudly, “My favorite people call me “PaPa.” He is also survived by several nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Jack, the fun one.
Burial will be private in Edenton, North Carolina on Wednesday, June 4. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 7 at Fred’s Restaurant and suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Courtland Rescue Squad.
