Elsie L. Banks

HAMPTON – Elsie L. Banks of Randall Court, Hampton, Virginia transitioned on May 25, 2025 in Riverside Regional Medical Center. Her earthly journey began June 22, 1935 in Carrsville, Virginia.

Elsie was a member of Chapel Grove United Church of Christ where she served as secretary for many years and she was a member of the usher ministry. During her youth, she graduated from Orange High School, Orange, New Jersey. Elsie also attended Edison Community College

Elsie held a prestigious position for the City of Plainfield, New Jersey however, her last position was with Newport News Public Schools, where she retired in 1997.

Elsie was joined in holy matrimony to Joseph Banks and remained united until he passed away in 2016. Her memory will live forever in the hearts of her six daughters, Cyndi Barnett (David), Linda Brown (Cornelius), Vergie Outlaw (Gregory), Vivian Banks, Kimberlyn Hawthorne (Brian), Jacquelyn Banks-Wood (Carlos); two sons, Fred Banks and Joseph Banks; 23 grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.

A public viewing will be held at the funeral home on Friday, June 6 from 3 – 7 p.m. A celebration of love will be on Saturday, June 7, at 11 a.m. at Chapel Grove United Church of Christ, 7366 West Blackwater Road, Windsor, Virginia with her daughter, Minister Cyndi Barnett delivering the message of comfort. The committal and benediction will follow in the church cemetery.
