Franklin High School’s varsity boys soccer team is preparing for the Class 1 Region B Tournament, winning two of its last three regular-season games to help establish its high regional standing.

The Broncos closed its regular-season schedule Monday, May 19, with a home game against Region 1B rival Surry County High School in a contest that had been rescheduled from May 12. Franklin ultimately defeated the Cougars 6-0 after also defeating them 4-1 on the road in April.

Southampton High School, which plays at the Virginia High School League Class 2 level, came to Armory Field on Friday, May 16, following up a narrow 3-2 April 9 home win over the Broncos with a more decisive 8-0 victory.

But the day prior, Franklin orchestrated a 9-0 victory over visiting Sussex Central High School, another Region 1B foe. The Broncos also defeated the Tigers 8-0 on May 6.

Franklin Head Coach Juan Quiroz confirmed that the Broncos carry a 7-10 overall record into the postseason.

“We are currently second in the region,” he said.

He noted that Franklin will begin play in the regional tourney on Thursday, May 29.
