COURTLAND – Melisa Lynn Hewett, 34, passed away unexpectedly on April 27, 2025. Melisa was born and raised in Southampton County and was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Calvin “Pa” Darden and her paternal grandparents, Alfred and Alice “Nana & Grandaddy” Hewett.

Melisa was a 2009 graduate of Southampton High School. She was also a member of Grace Memorial United Methodist Church.

She was a loving mother who adored her children. Melisa also loved her family and friends and anyone that knew her could tell you that her bright smile would light up a room instantly. She had a beautiful soul and a kind heart. Melisa never really knew a stranger from the time she was a toddler. Melisa was a beautiful person, daughter, mother, sister, niece, granddaughter and friend. Her spirit will live on forever through all the cherished memories of all those who knew and loved her.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 2 in Wright Funeral Home with Pastor Debbie Baugham officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to Grace Memorial United Methodist Church.
