The Southampton County School Board received data reviews on March 24 for all of Southampton County Public Schools, led by the high school.

Southampton High School (SHS) Principal Jafar Baraka made the data presentation for the high school, and this article will highlight accreditation and Standards of Learning (SOL) information from that presentation.

The 2024-25 accreditation data for SHS is based on 2023-24 results.

The 2024 accreditation status of Southampton High School is Accredited.

There are nine categories of school quality indicators that helped to determine that status, and according to the Virginia Department of Education, performance on each school quality indicator can fall into one of three levels:

  • Level One: At or Above Standard;
  • Level Two: Near Standard; or
  • Level Three: Below Standard.

For SHS, following are the school quality indicators and their corresponding levels listed across three overarching categories:

Academic Achievement
• English: Level One

  • Mathematics: Level One
  • Science: Level Two

Achievement Gaps

  • English: Level Two
  • Mathematics: Level Two

Student Engagement & Outcomes
• Chronic Absenteeism: Level Two

  • College, Career and Civic Readiness Index (CCCRI): Level Two
  • Dropout Rate: Level Two
  • Graduation and Completion: Level One
