To the Editor:
This is to commend The Tidewater News for its excellent news coverage of the goings-on of our community. I have been especially interested in recent events relative to the administration of our public school systems and of the associated actions of our governing bodies, …as well as of our citizenry, which has been demonstrating its good example of responsible civic duty.
This also points to the special importance of “freedom of speech” and “free press” in our society, as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. While large news organizations cover regional, national, and international affairs, the “small town paper” serves the same important role at the community level.
There cannot be many things as important to the future integrity and success of our nation as the education of our children, which is best determined and protected at the community level. We are fortunate indeed to have a citizenry engaged in this matter and a newspaper committed to thorough reporting of such topics.
