The 2024-25 season for the Franklin High School varsity boys’ basketball team may not have culminated in a state championship, but their journey is undoubtedly a story of resilience and that deserves praise. Despite the 2-8 start, this squad demonstrated incredible dedication and hard work, culminating in a run that saw them win 11 of their last 13 games.

This included a historic postseason that brought home the Region 1B championship with a 67-56 victory over Altavista High School. This regional title was the program’s first in 18 years. The Broncos continued their impressive run through the state tournament, defeating Northumberland High School and upsetting the two-time defending state champion Lancaster High School to reach the state final for the first time in 32 years.

While the state championship game against George Wythe High School resulted in a loss, with a final score of 77-38, the Broncos’ accomplishment cannot be understated — by all accounts, they were not supposed to be there. But they reached the pinnacle of Class 1 basketball, a feat only achieved once before in the program’s history.

Head Coach Robby Cutchins aptly described their opponent as a “buzz saw” but emphasized the profound impact of the team’s journey on the players, coaching staff, and the program as a whole. He highlighted the team’s turnaround and their remarkable run to the state championship game as an “amazing stamp on history,” and he is spot on.

The 2024-25 Franklin Broncos have etched their names into the school’s history. Their journey serves as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved through perseverance and teamwork. Bronco Nation has every reason to cherish the memories and celebrate the extraordinary accomplishments of this resilient squad.
