Franklin City Council hashed out details Monday, March 24, for the March 31 town hall meeting that it voted for unanimously at its March 10 meeting.

Based on what the council determined, the March 31 town hall meeting will be held in the Franklin City Council Chambers and will run from 6-8:30 p.m.

Franklin City Manager Rosylen Oglesby will present the proposed fiscal year 2025-26 city budget from 6-6:30 p.m.

Then council members will give introductions prior to the beginning of a period in which residents will be able to pose questions to council members. City department heads will be present to aid in the answering of questions, as needed.

Ward 3 Councilman Gregory McLemore recommended that before beginning the question-and-answer portion of the meeting, it should be established that the council has a certain range of things that it can respond to that are within its realm and that the Franklin City School Board is a separate entity and that this is not the School Board’s town hall meeting but rather the City Council’s.

It was determined that the town hall meeting will not require a moderator, as relevant council members can respond promptly after a question has been posed.

Ward 4 Councilman Dr. Linwood Johnson recommended having a topic for the meeting like, “How can we make our city better?” Other council members expressed support for that topic.

Citizens will have the freedom to pose questions at the actual meeting. However, Ward 6 Councilwoman Jessica G. Banks also highlighted the value of citizens submitting some questions ahead of time via email or phone call to allow council members time to research and have a more informed answer at the actual meeting.

The Franklin City Council Chambers are located on the first floor of Franklin City Hall, which is located at 207 W. 2nd Ave. in Franklin.
