Multiple agencies responded to 100 Council Drive in Franklin on Thursday afternoon, March 27, to address a gas leak.

Franklin Chief of Emergency Services Vernie W. Francis III stated that at about 3 p.m. on Thursday, Franklin Fire and Rescue and Hunterdale Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the Council Drive location.

“Upon arrival, crews found evacuations in progress,” he said, adding that crews set up a perimeter to contain the area while beginning their investigation.

He noted that command requested additional resources from Courtland Volunteer Fire Department and Courtland Volunteer Rescue Squad to assist with the incident.

“Crews were able to determine the source of the leak to a damaged line running to a heater,” he stated. “Crews ventilated the structure, while the gas utilities were isolated and secured until repairs can be made.”

He said one civilian was evaluated and released; no other issues were reported.

“The scene was turned over to the manager and maintenance,” he stated.
