FRANKLIN – Walter Andre Cobb, 65, passed away March 19, 2025 in Portsmouth, VA. Walter was born August 11, 1959 in Suffolk, VA to Melton and Lois Cobb. He was a 1977 graduate of Franklin High School and graduated from Old Dominion University in 1983. He worked at International Paper (“Union Camp”) and then at Franklin Power & Light as a Systems Technician for 23 years.
Walter was a lifelong Washington Redskins fan and he loved listening to all kinds of music. He was known for his sense of humor and his corny jokes.
Walter was predeceased by his mother, Lois Brown Cobb; his sister, Robin C. Ellis; his maternal grandparents, Skidler and Catherine Brown; and his paternal grandparents, Tony Roy and Willie Annie Cobb. Left to cherish his memory are his father, Melton Rawls Cobb, and two sisters, Cathy Felts (David) of Sedley and Amy Cobb of Virginia Beach. He is also survived by three nephews, Patrick Felts, Madison Ellis, and Aaron Felts, two nieces, Amanda Pittman (Ryan) and Meredith Speight (John Roger), three great nephews, Thomas Pittman, Clayton Ellis, and John Earl Speight, his brother-in-law, Robert Earl Ellis Jr., and numerous cousins.
The family thanks Kimya Scott and her two children who lovingly cared for Walter in his last days, along with the hospice team from Westminster-Canterbury at Home.
A celebration of life will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, March 23 at Wright Funeral Home in Franklin. The family will receive visitors in the funeral home one hour prior to the celebration of life. A graveside service will follow at Rosemont Cemetery in Sedley. Wright Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
