The Senior of the Month for March from Windsor High School is Laura Branch.
An Isle of Wight County Schools news release noted that during the months of October through May, the School Board of Isle of Wight County recognizes a Senior of the Month from both Windsor High and Smithfield High at the regular monthly board meeting. Each Senior of the Month will receive a $500 scholarship made possible through donations from the division’s business partners.
IWCS officials stated that Branch’s academic accomplishments are impressive, noting that her enrollment in five advanced placement and six dual enrollment courses reflects her dedication to challenging herself academically.
She has consistently earned a spot on the principal’s list and was selected to attend Virginia Girls State, further demonstrating her academic excellence and leadership potential.
In addition to her academic achievements, Branch is a well-rounded individual who has excelled in extracurricular activities, officials noted. As a varsity soccer goalkeeper and former junior varsity captain, she has shown strong leadership and teamwork skills. Her participation in varsity golf, scholastic bowl and Beta Club further illustrates her diverse talents and commitment to contributing to her school community.
Branch’s involvement in the Student Booster Club highlights her enthusiasm for fostering school spirit and supporting her peers.
And her contributions extend beyond the classroom and athletic field.
Through her volunteer work with Millfield Baptist Church, she has demonstrated empathy and compassion by creating and delivering Bags of Hope to those in need and serving as a teen leader for Vacation Bible School. Her approximately 82 hours of service reflect her dedication to making a positive impact in her community.
“Laura Branch is a well-rounded student who effectively balances her academic responsibilities with extracurricular commitments,” WHS science teacher Leslie Moring said. “She is kind, thoughtful and takes great pride in her work. As a natural leader, she consistently asks insightful questions that foster meaningful discussions both in and out of school. She continually challenges herself by enrolling in advanced coursework, which demonstrates her strong work ethic, her pursuit of excellence and her resilience, as she overcomes obstacles with grace and determination. Laura is dependable, dedicated, humble and most deserving of this award.”
Branch has been accepted to Virginia Tech and is waiting to make her decision after she hears back from her other applications. She plans on majoring in either cinema or pre-law.
