HERTFORD, North Carolina –

JoAnne Mulder Turner

JoAnne Mulder Turner, lovingly known as “Mama Jo,” age 80, of Hertford, North Carolina, died at Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. She was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, on Jan. 24, 1945, to the late George Henry Mulder and Elsie Evans Mulder Overby.

Surviving to honor her legacy are her devoted sons, James “Buddy” Cheeks (Ruth) and Jack Cheeks (Christi); brothers, Marlin “Huss” Mulder (Millie), Herman Mulder and John Mulder (Betty); and her caring sisters, Gracie Malcolm and Deloris Harrell. JoAnne is also survived by her dear sister-in-law, Shirley Mulder; her grandson, Zachary Cheeks (Kayley); and her great-grandson, Cohen Cheeks. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family who will remember her fondly. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents; daughter, Alesia Jo Peede; granddaughter, Pailin Cheeks; sister, Joanie Williams and brother, Robert Mulder.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 16 at her son’s residence at 133 Green Wood Lane, Hertford, North Carolina 27944.
